'Local' probably extends up to Canet-Plage to the North, and down to Cadaques in the South. (Although there are many lovely bays and coves worth visiting further down the Costa Brava - until about Tossa del Mar)
Part II - the countryside
Canet Plage, a large, flat sand beach, with plenty of attractions in the season

Le Racou is our favourite beach. It nearly the closest, and it is largely unspoiled.

There is an excellent beach restaurant at Le Racou called Menj Aqui, serving tapas and grills.

Collioure is a lovely place to go in the evening.

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Parking is at a premium, however - leave plenty of time.

Port Vendres is still a fishing and ferry port.

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Banyuls has an old-world charm about it.

Banyuls makes a nice change from brash Canet or St. Cyprien.

Cap Cerbere is the place for wild flowers in the Spring.

Agua Blava is well into the Spanish Costa Brava, but this is a lovely spot.
